Some notable alumni of the academy are Adil Khan, Denzil Franco, Mickey Fernandes and Pratesh Shirodkar, who are now renowned names in the football fraternity. Over this period, SFA’s senior team has risen through the ranks in Goa’s local leagues, and now plies its trade in the Goa Pro League, the top division of Goan football. The 2023-24 season was a breakthrough season in more ways than one, the SFA Senior Men’s Team finished runners-up in the GPL & progressed to the ‘play-offs’ of the I-League 3.

In order to strengthen Indian Football, Vedanta launched one of its kind platform for aspiring Women footballers from Goa-‘Vedanta Women’s Football League’ in 2017, in collaboration with Goa Football Association (GFA). The league has successfully completed 8 editions and garnered overwhelming response, with a cumulative impact on 1400+ footballing talents from across Goa.

The prodigal find of the Vedanta Women’s League, Ms. Karishma Shirvoikar, went on to wear the national colours for the India Under-17 team and has gone into the history books as the fastest goal scorer in the National Women’s Championship. Besides Karishma, few more talented women footballers emerged from the league and were selected for national camps and training programs.

SFA fielded its pioneering Senior Women’s Team at the VWL in the 2023-24 season. The debutants played credibly and secured the 3rd position in their maiden foray in the League. In the 2024-25 season, the #SFALionesses won the VWL and that too in an unbeaten and emphatic manner. The #SFALionesses have now made their way to Indian Women’s League 2 and are on a steady upward trajectory. The impact of VWL as a vessel for empowerment & as a ‘League of Dreams’ is increasingly apparent.

With the vision of providing the country’s young footballers a platform to compete against each other and showcase their skills at a national level, the SFA also anchors the Vedanta Youth Cup, which was launched in 2019.

For its focussed approach, emphasis on creating a footballing ecosystem, investment in infrastructure & support staff, the SFA has secured AIFF’ Elite 3 Star Rating. The accomplishment is testimony to the ground covered by SFA in over 26 years of coming into existence in shaping the futures of the youth from the mining & rural belts of Goa.
